About Us
Hi my name is Narelle and I’m Jai’s mum
I had a chilli bourbon drink made in Jai’s name adding his favourite drink and spice to give to all of his mates. I wanted to do more for young boy’s & men to help combat this horrible disease as I found that there were very little services out there for Jai and us as a family to get help and support. So as alcohol is very expensive to have made and with very little money to start it off. I had to think of another way to market this product so I could start donating to this cause.I sat with a friend and came up with a basic sauce recipe then began to tweak it as my own.So, I combined Jai’s favourite spice being chili and his favourite drink being bourbon and added it into the recipe. I source almost all of my products locally but some are not, however they are still Australian products.I began to look for markets now I had perfected my sauce recipe, with this going well I began to donate $1.00 per jar sold.Then covid hit us and one of my closest friends came down with it and I made her a lemon honey for her throat. After a year of selling my sauce, I thought about the honey I had made & thought of adding the bourbon and chili to the honey.This was a fast-growing product so I decided to try the lemon honey which exploded my little market business.People then starting asking if I had ginger and other flavours so I ended up making them and now I’m becoming known I have a lot of returning customers. When summer hit, I found my friend using her lemon honey as a salad dressing so we got together and made a lemon garlic vinaigrette. As this was very well received, I decided to add a bourbon garlicVinaigrette as well which is also now a popular product.I now proudly donate every month without fail to The Chris O’Brien Life House in Sydney towards Testicular Cancer Research and family support.
Jai's Story
Jai Anthony Jon Miechel was born on March 18th, 1994, a bright and vibrant soul who would go on to face more challenges in his short life than most people experience in a lifetime.
At the age of 16, Jai was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of testicular cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The news was devastating, but Jai was determined to fight for his life. He underwent extensive chemotherapy, and after months of treatment, he finally went into remission.
But Jai's battle with cancer was far from over. At the age of 21, the cancer returned, and he was forced to fight again for his life. Once again, he proved his strength and resilience, emerging victorious after another round of treatment.
In the aftermath of his second battle with cancer, Jai discovered a new passion - rock climbing. He found solace in the physical and mental challenge of scaling walls and peaks, and his goal became to reach the top of the hardest wall set up at Pulse, a popular climbing gym.
On October 9th, 2017, Jai achieved his dream, standing proudly at the summit of the daunting wall. But as he celebrated his triumph, tragedy struck. Jai suffered a sudden and unexpected bleed in his brain, caused by an aneurysm that had been hiding beneath the surface.
Two days later, on October 11th, Jai underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure in his brain. Unfortunately, it was too late. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Jai's body was too weak to fight off the damage caused by the aneurysm.
As his family and friends gathered around him, Jai's spirit slipped away, leaving behind a legacy of courage, determination, and a passion for life. In his honor, his family created a boutique bourbon brand that combined his favorite drink with a special spice blend - a chilli bourbon rub and marinade that would become a beloved tribute to Jai's memory.
Though Jai's life was cut short at just 23 years old, his impact on those around him will be felt for generations to come. His story is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for resilience and determination in the face of adversity. And as we raise our glasses to toast his memory, we remember Jai as a shining example of what it means to live life to the fullest.
